Mach Loop challenge personal time records

31 Mar 2016 18:46 #28389 by Neilson
Thats a awesome time :)

Nice one to Raider1

Saw him flying it yesterday and getting a 145.80

I think 143 can be done, but with full zen focus and practice

I have seen F-GTUX in the past do a 144/145 time, can not remember it though :side:

Well compared to yours, I'm not in a brilliant position. Anyway, you created and you know all its secrets so it's a bit obvious you are at the top.
What's the problem to the leaderboard? It's updated.

Would be good to get Rader1's name up there too.

Any time under 148:00s is very fast, and not easy to do.

I have played quite a bit of Forza 1 to 5, time trials on a empty track is probably my favourite way to race.
I like to try and use the perfect apex for each turn, slowly building up my speed each time around.

From reading the book Genius: Richard Feynman and Modern Physics, it has a really nice bit about (path of least resistance).
Basically the fastest and most efficient route to take, with lest energy used.

I feel the best way to practice this on the Mach Loop for a top time is to fly slow jet. I like to take the Hawk-T2 as an example.
I fly through the line up rings to get its max level speed, then go for it.

Each time around you will have times that are close to each other, this is when tweaking the (path of least resistance) is more visible.

8.4.2016, 9:55:18, VooDoo, A-4E, 158.88

It's the best I'll likely ever run as this run was pretty much as fast as the A-4 can run....wide open.Even at this speed my machine cannot load the scenery and render fast enough without swamping the memory and single digit frame rates at 600+ KIAS begins to give glitching/grabbing and small, intermittent lock ups and freezes anyway. Once I get to speeds fast enough to compete with the top times the problem becomes the inability of my machine to stay out of the way and let me fly it.

I ran it in the SU-27 and that aircraft can run fast enough to get my times below 150 seconds (down into the 140's) but makes demands on the graphics that makes smooth control of the aircraft impossible....I can't make the turns with jittering and freezing frames. :pinch:

So, I'd love to compete and keep up with the Big Kids but I'll have to let you guys take The Kudos...love the Game but I'm not able to be competitive until I get more memory and more graphics Ooomph.

Fine, I've updated the Top 10. BTW more people should be in there. Do you mind if I resume the old times in the older topics and post 'em in there?

for voodoo, i seem to get micro lags at the same places as you, from memory.

there is a single wind farm turbine and a radio tower south, i find the lags happen looking south as mentioned with Geed who gets it too.
Scenery i think , not pc is the problem.

I will have a look tomorrow.

ps turning off clouds and trees, buildings and so on will increase load times, with less to load.

Mach loop speed tips, this is the base for my GR4 flights, then push them, by 1 or 2kts depending.

I just checked my log & found the fastest time in my logs:

3.7.2015, 23:08:54, enrogue, Mako, 149.93

not great, but it's a nice aircraft to do it in

I just did a quick single verifiable run in the Mako so this should easily be able to be beaten:

After weeks of practicing I've managed to get the F-14 around in a decent time (144.0). I reckon that the F-14 is possibly the hardest aircraft to get round in a decent time due to its poor roll response and dislike of -ve g manouevering.

You obviously haven't tried it in the Swift Richard. It just dislikes flying at all, and sets of trying to kill you for trying to get off the ground.

Leaderboard is updated.
Richard's time makes me wonder if I have to go out and try the Loop to improve my time...
BTW, great job there Richard!

Managed to get it round the loop easily enough. It's a bit tricky to get off the ground with flaps, without flaps it isn't too bad.

Putting on the virtual (dayglow orange) flightsuit for a moment it looks to me like the flaps are very wrong. The pitch moment is ridiculously wrong with full flaps, the drag increment due to flaps is way too high generally, but particularly with one notch of flaps. Overall aircraft controllability in pitch, the pitch moment and pitch damping derivative (CMQ) are definitely suspect.

It's different when an aircraft is tricky to fly because it is, compared to one that is tricky to fly because the dynamics aren't right -)

I still maintain that the F-14 is way harder to get around the loop in (with wings swept).
