I was fascinated to learn a bit more about the data link system, available via the PTR-175, as the AP's (both aircraft and radio) always skirt around the system.
I had previously believed it was simply to play messages from the Head Sound Reproducer, which was confirmed by this book, but the book also stated about DL being able to take control of the aircraft too. Weather this got any further than trials I'm unsure.
