Lightning T5 Liveries

14 Aug 2016 19:32 #30570 by thebroons
Based that on the model....

But yes, shouldn't make any livery difference. Seeing as you'll be "winging it" (cheap laugh) maybe you could extend the leading wingtips forward a tad, pivoting on the wing notch 3/4 of the way down the leading edge from inboard. If Scott can confirm, I think it deflects a couple of degrees or so forward from that point and is not parallel to the inboard edge.

No rest for the wicked!

Second version - same but ends in "b" with different arrangement

I'm sure that Scott has equal or better, but here's a few internals to show when gear is down, etc.

I have more but they're more with livery detail than insidey bits.

Some of those are going to come in really handy, thanks! Especially wanted to replace the low-res textures of the inside of the outer (rounder) gear doors, these are absolutely perfect. Superb! :)

Regarding the ailerons, yes the original model is wrong. I'll get the welding kit out... or actually, Blender (probably more stressful)...

@ Scott - thx, got it.

Here's a pic of the T5 top wing surface. Made from the 2 blueprints I've found thus far.

Marked in red lines are the ailerons Scott mentioned tapering to the inner wing tip. Red arrows show the true deviation point along the leading edge at 6.5 o
Blue arrows are for Scott - there's a discrepancy between the flap angle on the trailing edge between the 2 prints. Do you know which is correct (if any)?

;)

Hi, I'll have to check on the flap angle.

The wings there are F6, but I see you've drawn a straight line to make it into a T5 / F3 wing.

Tomorrow when I'm at my PC I'll gather some better info (struggling on my phone tonight!)

By the way, great images you found earlier - trouble is with my photos, when you work on it, you don't have time to take loads of photos. In retrospect I wish I'd taken more over the years..

Cheers, Scott

The ill fated XS451 / ZU-BEX, but a great shoot showing the underside of the wings.

Also note the lovely reheat diamonds..

And now an annotated version to help, I've highlighted ares we've discussed recently such as undercarriage doors and nav lights.

I've also noticed the tailplane pivot angle is wrong.. . I also noticed this on Lightning models for MS FlightSim.

cheers, Scott

Where did you find these drawings online? Trouble is with some of these diagrams, is you have to know where the artist got his information - Someone may have just drawn from a plastic model airfix kit... can't beat a photo of the real thing!

The F3 wing - pretty much identical to the T5:

Also note the angle of the refueling probe.

This came from a great website, loads of fantastic images here: www.lightnings.org.uk/terry-senior/nggallery/page/1

Cheers, Scott.

Nice pics Scott!

Where did you find these drawings online?

I found one at the blueprints.com (the crappy res. one) and the other at military.wikia.com

Admittedly not the most reliable of sources, but not much to choose from.
