Porcy's Choice - Tricycle Warbirds

11 Feb 2018 19:34 - 11 Feb 2018 19:35 #37728 by Vodoun da Vinci
I have two tricycle style Warbirds I wanna get active ASAP for those who aren't comfortable with tail draggers or don't want/can't spend the time to get proficient to come play in future FlightNight Fighter Tag adventures. Ya'll choose which one gets priority.

Lockheed P-38L Lightning:

Or a Bell P-39D Airacobra:

The P-39D already has been released but needs tons of work including a credible FDM (as will the P-38 actually) and I want folks who are interested in tricycle landing gear aicraft to help me set priority.

Thanks in Advance!

Tough choice, but I'd say P-39.

I like 'em both, but P-39D probably takes it, particularly as I believe Porcy mentioned it particularly when we were talking about viable warbirds for the flight a while back...

Stuart is tackling the P-38 FDM and I have tweaked the P-39 FDM into credibility....more work to do but at least it accelerates credibly and gets into the air in a timely manner now.

Instrumentation is fair to good. I'll tidy up animations and try and get it set up for Warbird Tag and update the public download area this weekend and we'll have a P-39D Airacobra for our next Tag session. Way easier to take off/land than a tail dragger.

Cheers!!

In tweaking up the P-39D FDM and flying it/getting critical with it's performance and the Model features I realized that the Model is not actually a P-39D - much more in line with a later P-39Q.

So I'm tweaking performance to match and fixing a bunch of other stuff. The aircraft will be released as a completely new aircraft - daVinci_P-39Q-25.

Hopefully this weekend or next with stuff added to make it functional for the next Warbird Flag tag game.

I have two P-38's now - A daVinci_P-38J and a daVinci_P-38L. Not sure yet which one will be "released" but they are both modified for Warbird Tag and tested to show smoke.

Splash screen of the daVinci_P-38L to be uploaded to the Cloud for testing along with the unfinished daVinci_P-38J. We might get both.
