FlightGear V 2017.3.1 has been released.

Changelog:-

Aircraft

detailed Carrier USS Harry Truman and escort group, with many animated elements, using experimental wave motion ( edit - Well done Timi Hietanen you got your wave motion noticed and used in a core release )


Property tree

C++ versions of props.nas setValues/setChildren() Improve performance of Nasal properties access by implementing the setValues/setChildren props.nas functions in C++ [1]


Nasal

Multiple flightplans fixed and is now possible to be controlled from Nasal. See Nasal_Flightplan.


Startup

Starting on carriers fixed

Simple API to add addons to FlightGear without the need to mess around with FGData/Nasal or FGHome/Nasal directories.


Scenery

new Mediterranean tree textures, new desert shrub textures


JSBSim

Support for AI wake turbulence added. (a small code snippet needs to be added to the plane)


ALS

Volumetric grass effect utilizing a geometry shader, based on work by Fernando Garcia Linan

Helicopter rotor wash effect for volumetric grass and water shaders

consistent snow implementation for OSM roads and buildings

directionally visible car lights for the OSM traffic shader

realistic daytime-dependence of road traffic

Under AI menu in game the is a new bit, FG2017.3

From testing in the F/A-18c i got a bit of a wake flying past a AI airliner.

There was not wake from flying in formation with it 0.01nm of its tail.

I don't think it works over mp yet, hopefully they will add this :)
Quick test flying past Stuart had no results with the wake.

From reading what I could about this, it is experimental at the moment and i think they want to do more with it.

I had to go back over the flightgear-devel mails to see whats been implemented for the aircraft wake (I remembered seeing it & thinking it was cool):

- no changes required on Yasim aircraft as it is added to local wind
- small change required (external force) to JSB aircraft
- it reads parameters from the performance db for AI aircraft & the wing geometry from the jsb config

I hope it makes it into multiplayer eventually

Loaded up 2017.3.1 last evening and managed a couple test flights. I have my real weather back and everything looks stunning. I can run higher vegetation without frame rate hits.

Looks like a real winner so far.

I just tested the wave motion with the Truman task group.
And there really wasn't any. The ship does bank in a turn
but other than that I didn't seen any pitch and roll motion.

I think the code had variables for it but their value was zero. I think I could take the bank part to our ships though.

And they had better waves too.

I guess it's not easy to find data for the pitch and roll cycles. But one lucky Google search gave me the book with useful data.
